New FAFSA Act Presents Delays and Frustration for Colleges, Students

"The FAFSA Simplification Act was meant to shorten the application process by streamlining financial information directly from the IRS. However, it has been filled with issues and glitches since its conception," 16 News Now reports.

..."Nalia Medina from The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), an organization that works with college financial administrators, says the frequent delays have started from the beginning.

'We did see the 2024-2025 FAFSA have that delayed soft launch at the end of December 2023 when in a normal processing year we typically see the FAFSA go live on October 1,' she said. 'So I think that was kind of the start to the delays for this cycle. The Department of Education announced that it will need to reprocess all icers impacted by a recent issue impacted by incorrect IRS data so they’re going to be working on that in the first half of April.'"
