NASFAA Testing Center

*Important Alert for Test Takers* Given the scope of the regulatory changes in effect for the 2024-25 award year, NASFAA’s professional credential tests and the certification exam will transition to the new rules over the next several months. You will be presented with the version in effect on the date you take the test (not the date you purchased the test). The schedule of changes is available below. Note that the test you take could include five additional multiple-choice questions centered around a new scenario, which will not affect your score, and you’ll have an extra 30 minutes to complete the entire test.

NASFAA Credentialed Professional LogoOnce you have completed an approved NASFAA learning activity or demonstrate sufficient professional experience, you qualify to sit for a test in one or more topics. Each test involves a combination of multiple choice, and scenario-based questions. If you pass the test, you earn a nationally recognized credential.

Credentialed professionals now have the opportunity to renew each credential. NASFAA recommends renewing credentials every three years, or more often in the event of major regulatory changes. Renewal is not mandatory; NASFAA Professional Credentials do not expire. To renew, you must successfully pass the current version of the credential test for that subject area.

To gain access to a test, you may purchase the current version of the test by processing a payment or using an unexpired voucher, if you have one. Once purchased, you will receive an email providing you with a link to access the testing center. You will have two attempts to take the test. If you do not pass either attempt, additional testing attempts are available for purchase.

You must complete your available credential tests within the specified timeframe listed below each assessment within the testing center.

  • NASFAA's policy states that tests must be completed within 40 calendar days of the test purchase date.
  • If necessary, you may use your second attempt within the same 40-day testing window that began as of the date you initially purchased the test.
  • If you are not successful after the initial two attempts, re-tests are available for purchase, which provide an additional 40 days and two more attempts.
  • Please see our appeal policy if you need to request a testing period extension.

Access to a test expires at midnight (local time) on the date of expiration. Additionally, note that the testing center has scheduled maintenance windows on the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 PM ET to 1:00 AM ET. The testing center will not be available during those times, so please plan accordingly.

After you complete a test, the system lets you know whether you passed or not. All scores are confidential; instead, a Diagnostic Report will show how you did in each subject area of that test. Use this feedback to prepare to take the test again—or simply to improve your general knowledge of the topic.

Please be sure to read these Important Notices and Disclosures before purchasing a credential test.
