NEWS FROM NASFAA

In the book titled “After the Ivory Tower Falls: How College Broke the American Dream and Blew Up Our Politics – and How to Fix It," author Will Bunch traces the history of college in the U.S., beginning with the first technical schools, through the landmark GI Bill, and the culture wars of the 60’s and 70’s. "Bunch takes us on an insightful journey through the decades following World War II, homing in on the specific populations, policies, and social climate that contributed to the dismantling of the American dream of affordable college and the country’s many missed opportunities along the way," writes Arianna Gray, assistant director of financial aid and veteran services at Collin College in Plano, Texas, who read the book and shared her opinions of its content with NASFAA. What follows are her takeaways, thoughts, and reflections.
