 Meanwhile from McCall

Now back in D.C. after a week in Colorado, DME Policy Intern McCall Hopkin writes in her latest blog post about how she's been preparing for next week's 2018 National Conference in Austin. "As is usual with these projects, I learned volumes along the way about the intricacies of financial aid policy and how NASFAA fits into the conversation," she writes. Read on to see what else McCall has been up to over the past week and to learn about why the Rockies holds such a special place in her heart.

So you've done all the work to get your manual in compliance with federal regulations ... and then a new school year comes along. Without NASFAA's P&P Builder, a module of the Compliance Engine, that might mean combing through pages and pages of separate documents to make updates, but the P&P Builder makes it easy to move your existing manual in the P&P Builder from last year into the new year. Just click "Create a New Manual," name it, and click a section. You will receive a prompt which asks you if you'd like to "Pre-fill with Existing Data." Select the previous version you'd like to bring information over from and proceed. Head to our Compliance Engine Frequently Asked Questions page to find more answers to common questions.

TRENDING IN FINAID NEWS

A House appropriations subcommittee took steps toward finalizing its funding bill for fiscal year (FY) 2019 late last week that includes funding for labor, health and human services, and educational programs. While the subcommittee did propose increases in funding for the Department of Education (ED) for programs such as TRIO, they were not focused on those related to student grants or loans.

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

The Department posted a report that notifies the community of the approved awards for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and Federal Work-Study (FWS) programs for the 2018–19 Award Year.

x - NOTABLE HEADLINES

"Last week I blogged about the confusion engendered by many colleges and universities when they send students details of their financial aid packages along with their acceptance letters. The terms and conditions spelled out are often opaque and sometimes deceptive. 'If Congress doesn’t act,' I suggested, 'the Commonwealth of Virginia could require a standardized letter for all state institutions,'" James Bacon writes for Bacon's Rebellion.
