NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

 NASFAA 2019 Conference Logo

This session will look beyond the headlines about an amorphous "student debt crisis" to examine which students struggle most to repay their loans and identify ways that colleges can help students manage their borrowing. The presenters will provide up-to-date national data on which types of students have the most trouble repaying their loans and discuss how colleges can analyze data on their own students to implement targeted changes. The presenters will also discuss shifts in institutional practices that can help students make more informed financial decisions, and share recommendations for colleges as well as for the federal government. If you haven't already, register today to attend the conference in Orlando or to tune in for great sessions like this one via NASFAA Live, our web-based livestreaming option.

There are two approaches to calculating the expected family contribution (EFC) for summer periods--the Alternate EFC Approach and the Monthly Share EFC Approach. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has indicated that either approach is acceptable, and it is still the school's choice as to which method is used to avoid double-counting of the student contribution for summer packaged separately from the standard academic year. View the full answer to this question to learn why it is possible for there to be a substantial difference in the end results of both EFC calculations and search for answers to your other pressing regulatory and compliance questions, in NASFAA's AskRegs Knowledgebase.
