NEWS FROM NASFAA

President Joe Biden on Friday signed another continuing resolution into law for fiscal year 2024 to avoid a partial government shutdown until at least March 22. However, this resolution also reversed the Department of Education's (ED) announcement last week that would update the Student Aid Index (SAI) formula. 

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

The ownership of a qualified education benefit (529 prepaid tuition plans or Coverdell Education Savings accounts) determines how the asset is reported on the FAFSA. The FAFSA Simplification Act made changes with regard to how ownership of a qualified education benefit is determined for FAFSA purposes or how the asset is reported on the FAFSA. NASFAA's Application Process, Federal Pell Grant, and Need Analysis Self-Study Guides have been updated for 2024-25.
