NEWS FROM NASFAA

Meet Juan Chico Dimas. As an Indigenous person (P'urhepecha), it is rare for Juan to see people connected to Native American and Indigenous groups represented in leadership roles of a university. Yet, Juan said that Indigenous knowledge is expansive, and can be used to address many of the problems seen within higher education. Learn more about Juan and his career in financial aid in this brief Q&A.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Well-Being in Higher Education week is quickly approaching. During the week of February 26 be sure to join your colleagues for a virtual webinar series that will aim to raise the literacy for well-being among participating higher education professionals. NASFAA members can sign up for any of these free sessions on the schedule, with two events being hosted by our members. On February 27, Heidi Carl, Art Young, and Susan Shogren will explore the importance of emotional intelligence as a professional skill foundational to both individual and community well-being. Then on Friday March 1, Philip Hawkins and Joe Dobrota will share strategies and systems for how to prioritize mental health to more fully focus on serving students. Learn more and explore the schedule.

NASFAA, with its partner Blue Icon Advisors, is working closely with the Department of Education to help under-resourced institutions get ready to receive and review ISIRs in March. We need experienced financial aid professionals to serve as an emergency corps of consultants for remote assignments. Significant changes to the Pell Grant eligibility criteria and Federal Methodology (FM) formula are on the horizon, including a new name for the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which has become the Student Aid Index (SAI).
