NASFAA Certification Program: Guidance on Study Resources and Use of AI

As you prepare for the CFAA Knowledge Exam and create personal study tools, please keep the following guidance in mind, especially when using generative AI tools:

  • Do not upload NASFAA’s proprietary materials into any AI platform. NASFAA materials carry a copyright. All rights are reserved. Training and reference materials are intended solely for personal and educational use only.

    • Prohibited Uses:
      • NASFAA materials (e.g., the Exam Prep Guide) may not be uploaded, shared, or input into any artificial intelligence (AI) service (including but not limited to ChatGPT, Bard, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, or similar platforms) for the purposes of training, content generation, or redistribution.
      • Unauthorized reproduction, distribution, or modification of this content is strictly prohibited without prior written consent from NASFAA.

    • Permitted Uses:
      • Members may view, download, and reference these materials for their own professional development and institutional compliance purposes, consistent with NASFAA’s Terms of Service.

  • Use NASFAA’s official prep materials as the foundation for your resources. These items are carefully evaluated by our teams of subject matter experts and are consistently updated with regulatory changes.

  • Supplement with FSA’s free tools and trainings, which are similarly reviewed and maintained by financial aid experts.

  • Use caution with generative AI. While it can help brainstorm study questions or point to helpful resources, it may also produce inaccurate content, sometimes referred to as “hallucinations.”

  • If using AI, stick to open-source content like the FSA Handbook when prompting or generating examples.

We hope this guidance helps you make the most of your exam preparation while protecting the integrity of the certification process. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]
