NASFAA Mention: New App Seeks to Help Needy Students Receive Federal Assistance

"Prospective college student[s] can now apply for federal loans on their phones, after the Education Department launched a new app to boost aid requests," Bloomberg Government reports.

".... The app’s roll-out has had intermittent outages and other problems, said Justin Draeger, president and CEO of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Still, he said he was optimistic such issues would be fixed, and praised the app as one of the “latest steps in the ongoing effort to remove barriers that prevent students from receiving the aid they need.”

The app is part of the department’s effort to provide more comprehensive customer service for students with federal grants and loans. A pilot program for a debit card that students can use to disburse student aid is also scheduled to begin before the end of the year."
