Pop Quiz - Which System Is Correct When Evaluating Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used?

Scenario: When the school checks the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, the Federal Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) shows over 600 percent and the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) shows the Pell LEU as 100 percent. NSLDS shows the student received Pell at the same schools and in the same amounts as COD reported. Is this student eligible for Pell Grant funds or not?

Answer: No. COD is the system of record for Pell LEU reporting, as it predates NSLDS. If COD shows that the student has exceeded his or her LEU, the student is not eligible for additional Pell Grant funds.
