NEWS FROM NASFAA

The school has several students who are general reading and math tutors in local elementary schools. Do Federal Work-Study (FWS) students performing reading and math tutoring in elementary school meet the requirement of having at least one student performing family literacy activities? After President Joe Biden announced his plan for student loan cancellation last week, one of the first questions that started to surface was: What about borrowers who have already paid off their student loans? As it turns out, those borrowers who made payments on their federal student loans during the pandemic-related repayment pause can request a refund and potentially get more of their debt forgiven — and many have already started doing so.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA is offering an online training series designed to introduce new aid officers with less than two years of professional financial aid experience to the basic aspects of Title IV administration. This training series is complementary to NASFAA members. Each session will be approximately 60 minutes in length. All sessions will be recorded and available on demand through Aug. 30, 2023. Originally part of the 2022 NASFAA Virtual Conference, this 105-minute webinar is now free to all NASFAA members on-demand. In Part 1, officials from the Department of Education provide updates on upcoming FAFSA simplification changes effective for 2023-24 and to the Pell eligibility and Federal Methodology formula changes effective in the 2024-25 award year. In Part 2, NASFAA policy staff and aid administrators give a brief overview of NASFAA's SAI Modeling Tool and share how they are using the tool on their campuses to plan for these changes.
