NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

It depends. Guidance under "Identity and statement of educational purpose" in the Application and Verification Guide (AVG) volume of the FSA Handbook states this (bolded for emphasis): "A student who is unable to appear at your school must go to a notary public and sign the statement of educational purpose. He or she must then submit to your office that statement (again, with the “wet” signature), a certification from the notary that he or she appeared before the notary and presented a government-issued photo ID confirming his or her identity, and a copy of the same ID. Currently the Department does not authorize the use of online notary services as an alternative to traditional, in-person notary services." View the full answer to this question to learn more.

Updates to the 2023-24 P&P Builder are complete! The newest edition of the template includes updated FSA Handbook references, if available. There are icons drawing attention to new statutes and guidance related to changes to cost of attendance, professional judgment, the COVID-19 national emergency and more. As a reminder, with the introduction of a new template, all previous templates are archived. The process of rolling over previous versions of your manual to the new template is easy. See the instructions [here]. Members will continue to be notified via NASFAA’s Today’s News of any changes in guidance which may affect your P&P manual. Access to the P&P Builder is included with Value Plus membership and it is only $99 for all other membership levels. Head to the Compliance Engine page to start your subscription of the P&P Builder today.

Federal Student Aid (FSA) unveiled its schedule for an upcoming webinar series that will discuss the rollout of the 2024-25 FAFSA. Sessions will include a live Q&A chat feature that will follow each presentation.
