NEWS FROM NASFAA

Congressional Republicans, citing continued delays from the Department of Education (ED), are calling on the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to formally examine how the 2024-25 FAFSA rollout is impacting students and schools.

With Pell Grant eligibility officially being restored to incarcerated students this summer and Second Chance Pell experimental sites garnering an increased interest, the NASFAA community has been hard at work to assist in implementation efforts to promote equitable access to post-secondary education. Sheila Meiman, NASFAA’s prison education specialist, recently took some time to share her perspective on the changing landscape of Prison Education Programs (PEP) as well as her role in the PEP community space. Learn more about Sheila in the Q&A below!

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

In honor of Thank Your Mentor Day on Thursday, January 25, we asked NASFAA members to share messages of gratitude to the people who supported and guided their career in financial aid. Read their messages and share your own message on social media. Don't forget to tag NASFAA!

Register now for NASFAA’s four-week interactive online course on the new 2024-25 FAFSA and the entire application process, starting on Monday, February 12. The course will cover topics such as correctly answering dependency questions, supplying tax and income information, parental information, and more. This course is designed for financial aid professionals, but is also a great learning tool for individuals who assist students through the financial aid application process. Register now to secure your seat.

Our community has asked each other for document templates for collecting consent to share Federal Tax Information (FTI). If your institution has created a template that you are willing to share with the larger financial aid community, please submit the document to our community resource library by January 29. Thank you for helping support our community.
