NEWS FROM NASFAA

Meet Audra Main, FAAC®, financial aid director at Moore Norman Technology Center. Audra brings more than 30 years of financial aid experience to her work and approaches every aspect of her career with a passion for learning, networking, and fun.

The Department of Education (ED) issues an electronic announcement with guidance on resolving issues related to Reject Code 68 for the FAFSA. The reject code indicates a student’s Student Aid Index (SAI) is blank, but the transaction is not rejected, which ED notes has caused confusion for students and financial aid administrators. The notice explains comment codes 329 and 303 often accompany reject code 68, and provides several scenarios that may be the cause of these comment codes. The announcement also provides a detailed overview of each issue, how to identify it, and outlines a potential solution. The department continues to review these errors and will provide further guidance about resolving these issues.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Scenario: The student attended the fall and spring semesters, but not the summer trailer. The school received an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) with an official student aid index (SAI) during the spring semester. The student submitted verification documents after the spring semester ended (but within the 120-day window). View the full answer to this question to learn more.

Are you interested in advocating for student aid issues in your state? Volunteer to join NASFAA's State Advocacy Network! The network will work to ensure that states and regions are aware of emerging trends in state student aid policy, request additional support from NASFAA to assist with advocacy around timely state legislation, and notify NASFAA of new issues in state student aid policy. The network, which meets virtually on a bimonthly basis, will also provide a forum for state and regional leaders who follow state financial aid legislation and coordinate state-level advocacy efforts to share best practices related to communication with state lawmakers, student engagement, and advocacy campaigns. If interested, please apply to volunteer no later than 5 p.m. ET on Monday, September 8, 2025.
