NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA submitted a request to the Department of Education (ED) on Monday to offer flexibilities to institutions during the first six months following the July 1 effective date of many of the student financial aid provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). NASFAA noted that the deviation from the master calendar timeline has led to a lack of official guidance and clear answers on a number of topics. NASFAA recommends that ED focus on providing the information financial aid administrators need, and not penalizing them for good faith efforts made amid such uncertainty.

NASFAA Welcomes 2026 Dallas Martin Endowment Policy Intern Sophie Gamble

NASFAA is excited to welcome its 2026 Dallas Martin Endowment (DME) Policy Intern Sophie Gamble. Sophie is graduating from the Education Policy master’s program at The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, where she focuses on how federal policies are implemented by institutions and navigated by students. She has worked in the Office of Admission and Financial Aid throughout her program and previously worked in admissions at Hamilton College. Sophie has spent time with several educational access organizations, including Teach For America and Breakthrough Collaborative. We look forward to having Sophie with us this summer — keep an eye out for her introductory article coming soon!
