Associate Membership Subcategories for 2024-25
* If your organization provides loans or offers loan servicing, you must select Subcategory B.
** To qualify for independent consultant status, your annual gross revenue must be less than $100K and you must be the sole proprietor.
Subcategory A: Associations, Public Service Non-Profits*, Research Organizations, Government Agencies* & Institutional System Offices**
* Subcategory A includes all organizations that do NOT provide loans or loan services. Government agencies and non-profits that offer loans should join Subcategory B.
** To join as an Institutional System Office, all the individual schools within the system must be NASFAA members.
When your organization joins NASFAA, you designate a Primary Contact to serve as a liaison between the member entity and the association. The primary contact automatically receives all the benefits to which the organization is entitled and is responsible for designating the staff members who may access your member benefits and entitlements.

Subcategory B: Lenders, Guarantors, Loan Servicers, & Student Aid Service Providers
Subcategory B is for any organization that provides loans or services loans, as well as all Student Aid Service Providers, defined as any organization that provides a direct service to the financial aid community or to students. Examples of Student Aid Service Providers include large consulting agencies, software and hardware businesses, attorney and accounting groups, as well as staffing suppliers.

Subcategory C: Independent Consultants
This subcategory was developed for independent consultants who are not affiliated with a larger organization.
You must be able to answer yes to the following two questions:
- Are you the sole proprietor?
- Is your Total Annual Gross Revenue less than $100K?
If the answer is No to either question, you must join under Subcategory B as a Student Aid Service Provider.
