Session Description

This session is designed to equip financial aid professionals with a deeper understanding of private loan programs and their place within the overall financial aid landscape. We’ll explore the structure and features of private student loans, including lender eligibility criteria, credit evaluation, interest rate options, and repayment terms. Participants will gain insight into comparing private and federal loan programs, guiding students through informed borrowing decisions, and ensuring compliance with disclosure and certification requirements. In addition, we’ll discuss communication strategies for effectively counseling students and families, managing lender relationships, and addressing common challenges in private loan processing.
