More borrowers have been granted loan forgiveness through the temporarily expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, with the Department of Education (ED) announcing Wednesday that more than 100,000 borrowers have been identified as qualifying for roughly $6.2 billion in student loan forgiveness.
The tally is continuing to grow, as ED in January said the count was 70,000 borrowers totalling more than $5 billion in debt relief.
"The PSLF announcement made today means more of our dedicated teachers, nurses, first responders, servicemembers, and many other public service workers will get meaningful relief,” said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.
The announcement follows action by the Biden administration in October allowing borrowers to receive credit for previous payments that may not have otherwise qualified, among other expansions opening the door to thousands of additional borrowers.

Elections matter. This wouldn't have happened between 1/20/17 and 1/20/21.
