ED Approves More Workforce Pell Programs

Over two months after the launch of the Workforce Pell (WFP) program, the Department of Education (ED) on Monday announced it approved three more programs in Nebraska, bringing the total number of eligible WFP programs to five.
The three programs approved on Monday are offered by Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska, where students can now use Federal Pell Grant dollars to enroll in its phlebotomy technician, pharmacy technician, and CompTia tech+ with Google IT Support programs.
“Workforce Pell is all about putting American students and businesses first, propelling students into high-wage, in-demand careers throughout the Cornhusker State,” Under Secretary of Education Nicholas Kent said in a statement. “Nebraska’s new approved programs underscore the Trump Administration’s commitment to creating more affordable, faster routes to enter the workforce.”
Earlier in August, ED announced that it approved Indiana’s Ivy Tech Community College’s clinical medical assistant program as a WFP program. The first program approved for WFP was at Iowa Central Community College for its emergency medical technician program.
ED noted in its Monday announcement that governors across the country are currently identifying education and training programs that meet the criteria for Workforce Pell eligibility.
