NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA and the American Council on Education (ACE) wrote to the Department of Education (ED) last week urging it to publicly announce its intentions to resume reimbursing institutions for cancelled Perkins Loans, which it has failed to do since fiscal year (FY) 2010. This letter follows an initial attempt by the groups in July to call on ED to address this issue.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Webinar Logo

Join us tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. ET for NASFAA’s pop-up webinar, Applying Intrusive Coaching Principles to Financial Aid Counseling for Students of Promise, free to NASFAA members and non-members. As student demographics shift across the United States, colleges and universities need to reimagine how they engage and support students of promise, (i.e. first-generation students and those of lower socio-economic status.) Applying principles of intrusive advising, institutions deliver holistic support tailored to the individual student that supports momentum in their academic, financial, and career journeys. Join our presenters for this webinar where they will define students of promise and discuss their unique challenges and needs, introduce the concept of intrusive advising, provide examples of best practices to deliver holistic support to students, and discuss the opportunity to apply intrusive advising principles with timely data and analytics specifically to financial aid literacy and counseling. There is no registration fee, but you must register in advance.

During the NASFAA Consumer Information Assessment, the financial aid director at University of Western States involved other offices in the review. During our panel discussion next week, you'll not only hear from the director of financial aid, but also from the director of institutional appraisal and accreditation on how NASFAA's peer review helped shed light on consumer information requirements. Join us on Tuesday, October 16 for the discussion!

 Off the Cuff

The "Off The Cuff" team is taking a one-week hiatus due to fall travel. We'll be back next week with a new episode full of the latest news in higher education policy, and what's going on in the nation's capital. In the meantime, catch up on recent episodes you might have missed, and be sure to check out "Director Download," our new leadership-focused podcast. As always, send us your comments, questions, and suggestions, and remember to subscribe.

NASFAA's Board of Directors is here to represent you and is seeking your input. Please email any questions or comments you might have directly to a member of the NASFAA Board by clicking on their name on our Board Member Bios page. Questions or feedback may pertain to NASFAA products and services, membership benefits, policy issues, and advocacy efforts, or any other topic you would like to bring before the Board. The Board will compile feedback and discuss at the June 23-24 Board meeting. We welcome your insight.
