During the final week’s session of the Department of Education’s (ED) negotiated rulemaking, the committee dove into its updated agenda, with facilitators outlining that members would be asked to participate in 12 consensus checks throughout the week on issues ranging from loan discharge to Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).

Following months of review and discussion by NASFAA's Association Governance Committee and legal counsel, the association's Board of Directors voted on November 16 to share proposed edits to the NASFAA Bylaws with members for a 30-day comment period, as required. Bylaws are the legally binding rules that outline how the board of our association will operate. Periodically reviewing Bylaws against changing best practices and processes is recommended; the last time these Bylaws were comprehensively reviewed was 2012-13. We present two documents for your review — a redlined copy of the proposed updates to the Bylaws of NASFAA, and a summary document with explanatory text related to the updates. Please review these documents and share your feedback with NASFAA before Dec. 31, 2021.

In a recent podcast episode hosted by the American Council on Education (ACE), Justin joined the dotEDU team to discuss the financial aid system, student loan repayment, the Department of Education’s loan portfolio, and the current landscape of the servicing industry. The conversation dives into the federal policy discussions surrounding student loan forgiveness and other programs under consideration to aid borrowers in the wake of the pandemic.
