This week on "Off the Cuff," Justin, Jill, and David discuss how rescinding the national emergency could impact financial aid and how the rollout of FAFSA Simplification will bring about changes to professional judgment. Jill dives into how House Republicans will bring a vote to the floor, once they assume the majority in January, that would rescind the president’s national emergency declaration. David covers updates to professional judgment, which adds criteria around special circumstances and unusual circumstances.

The Nominations and Elections Committee is pleased to announce the 2023-24 slate for National Chair-Elect and Representatives-at-Large to the NASFAA Board of Directors. Voting representatives at NASFAA member institutions will receive an invitation by email to cast their vote online in January. Learn more about the candidates by reading through each person's statement of candidacy and resume. Winners will be announced in February and would officially take office in July 2023. Thanks to all who nominated candidates and/or agreed to run for NASFAA office.

Federal Student Aid (FSA) has unveiled five upcoming webinars beginning in 2023 that will cover the most recent guidance from the Department of Education (ED) on topics related to Title IV programs. Those topics will include: Administering Disbursements, Pell Grant Recalculations for Modules, Verification 2022–23 and 2023–24, Federal Update, and SAP Essentials. All sessions are scheduled for 1–3 p.m. ET with the first webinar in the series scheduled for January 11, 2023. Check out the full webinar schedule, running from January through May, and learn more about the upcoming series. FSA said more webinars “that address topics of interest to the financial aid community,” will be announced in the future.
