NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Department of Education (ED) announced on Thursday settlement agreements with five law schools after a Federal Student Aid (FSA) investigation found that those schools improperly disbursed Title IV funds to students in unaccredited Master of Laws (LL.M.) programs.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA is pleased to release version 7.0 of the SAI Modeling Tool, which has also been posted to the FAFSA Simplification Web Center. The latest update includes fixes to issues identified with the payroll tax allowance calculation for tax filing status “Don’t Know,” as well as for applicants reporting negative wages. Corrections are also made to the employment expense allowance for married independent students both with and without dependents, and to the Pell Grant calculation for greater accuracy. NASFAA is in the process of updating the tool to allow users to load their 2023-24 data and expects to have this available to users in the next month.

Federal Student Aid’s (FSA) webinar series discussing the roll-out of the 2024-25 FAFSA is now available on demand. If you missed a session or would like to revisit any of the webinars you can visit the FSA Training Center for video recordings, presentation slides, and complete written transcripts from each webinar. Additional details for each of the 11 sessions can be found in FSA’s announcement. The webinar series was originally promised as a part of FSA’s road map outlining delivery dates for 2024-25 FAFSA resources.
