NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) is hosting two webinars this week for financial aid administrators and other stakeholders. The first webinar, on Wednesday, April 3, focuses on the recently identified tax data issues in the 2024-25 FAFSA. The second webinar, on Friday, April 5, focuses on answers to some of the most common technical questions asked by aid offices, software developers, and other stakeholders. According to FSA, those interested in watching do not need to register for these webinars. Participation will be available on a first come, first-served basis and FSA can accommodate up to 20,000 attendees. A video recording will be posted the day after each session at the FSA Training Center

The Department of Education in a notice published on Tuesday explained its plans to pause processing for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant programs while undergoing an update of its systems and contact center to transition the management of the program from MOHELA to the department itself.

NASFAA President Justin Draeger recently joined the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and their podcast team to discuss the ongoing challenges presented by the 2024-25 FAFSA rollout. Justin provided a background on the FAFSA and efforts to simplify the form, its importance for federal student aid, and highlighted issues that the Department of Education (ED) needs to address in the coming weeks. Justin also discussed how financial aid offices are working to address these ongoing challenges.
