NEWS FROM NASFAA

To assist with financial aid planning, NASFAA, along with our community, is interested in learning from institutions when the bulk of aid offers for the upcoming 2024-2025 year will be distributed to first-year undergraduate students. Please share your insights through our short poll by Tuesday, April 9.

NASFAA is pleased to share a new timeline of key events in the FAFSA simplification implementation process that have taken place since the signing of the FAFSA Simplification Act. The timeline, split into sections for the FAFSA itself, ISIRs, EdConnect, and the SAI formula, visually depicts the steps and missteps that have led to the current state of affairs.

In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what’s going on in your state and regional associations. This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues from Texas, Nebraska, Tennessee, California, Puerto Rico, the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA), the Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WASFAA), the Southern Association of Financial Aid Administrators (SASFAA), and the Southwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (SWASFAA).

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

This AskRegs Knowledgebase Q&A was updated on April 3, 2024 to clarify that contributors only need to be verified when the application is selected for verification separately from these codes. The following IRS Response Codes are used when the FUTURE Act Direct Data Exchange (FA-DDX) transfers or attempts to transfer federal tax information (FTI) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) into the FAFSA for a contributor (student, spouse, parent). The following guidance is NASFAA's understanding based in part on the Parameter Value Edit Conditions in Volume 5 of the FAFSA Specifications Guide. NASFAA's annual Business Meeting this year will be conducted virtually at 2:00 p.m. ET on May 22, 2024 as part of the Policy Update Webinar. NASFAA's Bylaws dictate that the association must meet annually for the purpose of transacting all business which may be brought before the membership. The meeting will include reports on NASFAA's financial status, FAAC® program, governance and oversight, and diversity efforts.

NASFAA is seeking a financial aid expert to join its Business Services team as a project manager. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced financial aid professional who is ready for a career change and would enjoy helping NASFAA grow its consulting business, Blue Icon Advisors. Remote candidates are welcome and relocation is not expected. Those interested should apply online by Tuesday, April 9.
