The Department of Education (ED) on Monday kicked off the first day of its newest negotiated rulemaking (neg reg) committee focused on reforming the accreditation process, which Under Secretary Nicholas Kent said could “upend” higher education. 

NASFAA and dozens of higher education organizations responded to the Department of Education’s (ED) proposed regulations for the new Workforce Pell Grant (WFP) Program, calling for changes to provisions around job placement rate data collection, standards over the appeals process, and also voiced concerns about the implementation timeline.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) made sweeping changes to federal student aid programs that will widen unmet need gaps and increase the demand for supplemental private education loans. Please join Education Finance Council and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators today at 2 p.m. ET, for a timely discussion on PLL regulations and institutional best practices.

NASFAA Certification Exam Preparation Online Workshops offer motivated financial aid professionals an opportunity to gain valuable insights into the knowledge exam. Led by experienced financial aid administrators who are certified FAACs, this facilitated virtual experience includes weekly online sessions that provide a high-level review of the 12 content areas covered on the exam. Weekly meetings begin in May, learn more and be sure to reserve your seat by May 11. 

Next month NASFAA's Annual Business Meeting will be conducted virtually, at 2 p.m. ET on May 13, immediately preceding the Policy Update Webinar. NASFAA's bylaws dictate that the association must meet annually for the purpose of transacting all business which may be brought before the membership. The meeting will include updates on NASFAA's financial status, FAAC® program, governance and oversight, and diversity efforts. The NASFAA Policy Update will include the latest updates on what's happening in Washington related to student aid policy.
