NEWS FROM NASFAA

On Friday, NASFAA responded to the Department of Education’s (ED) request for comments on revisions to the NSLDS and COD systems to add functionality related to changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. NASFAA’s comments on the COD and NSLDS systems focused on the importance of ensuring that the updates provide accurate information about the limited exception to new federal loan borrowing caps, as well as for aggregate and lifetime borrowing limits.

The Department of Education (ED) recently released two final rules implementing changes made by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA): one addressing federal student loan provisions and the other covering Pell Grant provisions. NASFAA updated many of its OBBBA resources to align with the information and guidance reflected in the final rules. We will continue to monitor for additional developments, including subregulatory guidance and the release of the remaining final rule implementing OBBBA changes related to the accountability provision. If further updates to our resources are needed, we will revise them accordingly and communicate those updates in Today’s News.

The Department of Education (ED) provided details last week about four upcoming webinars and over a dozen virtual office hours related to the implementation of final rules related to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Scenario: Schools are experiencing some issues with a recently implemented change that now displays and reports cents instead of whole-dollar values for Title IV federal student loan aggregate limits in the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). See Electronic Announcement LOANS-26-05. As a result, schools are getting exception reports from the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System because COD does not use cents.
