NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

According to discussions during the U.S. Department of Education's (ED) June 5, 2026 One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA or Working Families Tax Cuts Act) Virtual Office Hours webinar, the new loan limits are effective for periods of enrollment beginning on or after July 1, 2026. If the period of enrollment starts before July 1, 2026, the new loan limits do not apply, and student’s interim exception (legacy or grandfathering) status does not have to be determined. NASFAA has also updated its loan limits flowchart to better match this clarification. View the full answer to this question to learn more.
