WASHINGTON, DC, JAN. 20, 2021 — Inauguration Day is upon us. The new administration has signaled that higher education will be a priority, and we expect that in the coming months and years we'll see many meaningful changes enacted for our nation's postsecondary students and institutions.
 
The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) believes that robust, streamlined student aid policies must play a central role in helping students achieve their educational goals. In its newly published policy priorities document, NASFAA calls on the new administration and 117th Congress to focus on, reinvest in, and recalibrate our country’s policies around postsecondary education.

While the pandemic-related funding, flexibilities, and waivers extended thus far by Congress and the executive branch have provided a tremendous lifeline to students and institutions, additional COVID-19 emergency relief and borrower relief are desperately needed. We're pleased to see the incoming administration has announced this is a top priority.
 
As it works to support postsecondary students and institutions through the pandemic and refocuses on important efforts to reauthorize the Higher Education Act, NASFAA also calls on the new administration and Congress to take measures to:

• Strengthen the Federal Pell Grant Program
• Curb student indebtedness and simplify repayment
• Enhance student aid delivery
