SAN DIEGO, CA, MAY 25, 2023—Next month, hundreds of financial aid practitioners, researchers, and thought leaders from across the United States will gather in San Diego, California for an invaluable professional development opportunity that will arm them with the knowledge and skills to best assist college students and families when they need it most.

The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators’ (NASFAA) 2023 National Conference will host more than 2,400 practicing financial aid administrators from Thursday, June 29, to Sunday, July 2. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from top U.S. Department of Education officials, including Federal Student Aid Chief Operating Officer Richard Cordray.

On Friday morning, the conference will kick off with a topic that is top of mind for higher education professionals nationwide: implementing the simplified and streamlined Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. Federal officials will discuss the new FAFSA questions and processing changes, including changes related to unaccompanied homeless youth determinations, the reinstatement of Pell Grants for incarcerated students, and the new Prison Education Program requirements.

Then, on Saturday morning following a policy update from Department of Education officials, Cordray will deliver a keynote address discussing the significant changes happening across the federal student financial aid programs, including a complete redesign of the FAFSA® form, how aid will be calculated and delivered, and enhancements to vital systems used by financial aid professionals.

In the final session capping off the conference Sunday morning, the U.S. Department of Education will present information and updates on the details of the calculation of the new Student Aid Index, including eligibility criteria for a Pell Grant.
