Initial 2022-23 COD System Release Will Not Include Most Up to Date Pell Schedules

By Megan Walter, NASFAA Policy & Federal Relations Team

Update 3/24/22: The Department of Education on March 24, 2022 released updated Pell Grant payment and disbursement schedules that reflect the $400 increase to the maximum Pell Grant award for the 2022-23 award year.

On Monday, Federal Student Aid (FSA) announced that due to timing constraints the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) functionality for the 2022-23 award year that is scheduled to be released on March 27, 2022 will include the 2022-23 Pell Grant payment and disbursement schedules that were originally released before the passing of the omnibus spending bill in early March that set the maximum Pell Grant to $6,895.

FSA plans to post a revised 2022-23 Pell Grant payment and disbursement schedule through the Knowledge Center this week to reflect the $400 increase to the maximum Pell grant and push the revised Pell Grant schedules to the COD system in mid-April.

FSA encourages institutions, if able, to refrain from submitting Pell Grant records to the COD system until after the revised schedules have been implemented in the COD system as institutions will have to self-correct any records sent prior to the implementation of the revised payment and disbursement schedules.

Pass the spending increase and get the necessary information out to schools in mid-April, yet have the gall to tell us to hurry up and help students by packaging them early. Very frustrating and not geared toward helping families as our government claims to be aimed at doing. Political promises fail once again. At least we're a summer trailer so our families will still have some time before 22-23 AY begins. I feel really bad for those schools with summer headers.

So the new Pell schedules will NOT be included (as the title states...) or WILL be included (as the article states...)?? I'm confused.
