June State & Regional Association Updates

In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what is going on in your state and regional financial aid administrator associations.

This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues in Wisconsin and Georgia.

Mandy Slowinski, president of WASFAA (Wisconsin), shares that the WASFAA Advocacy and Legislative Committee team met with its Wisconsin grants and stakeholders team regarding the pending bill over Selective Service, the transition from Expected Family Contribution (EFC) to the Student Aid Index (SAI), and updating the Wisconsin Grant. Six to eight members attended visits to the Wisconsin Hill in May.

Additionally, the WASFAA Professional Development committee held its third and final free spring 2023 mini-session on May 19 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where participants could earn their NASFAA Professional Credential on verification and meet with fellow financial aid administrators. The WASFAA President’s Retreat was held May 8-11 at the Heidel House in Green Lake, Wisconsin. Mandy writes that WASFAA is anticipating the Spring 2024 Conference will take place at the Heidel House Hotel & Conference Center at Green Lake, Wisconsin, from April 3-5, 2024.

David McMillion, president of GASFAA (Georgia), shares that the association held its annual conference at Lake Lanier Island from May 31-June 2.

Check back next month to see what your colleagues are doing across the country, and check out your colleagues’ updates from previous months!
