NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA is pleased to share its draft comments to the Department of Education (ED) on the second round of revisions to the 2027-28 FAFSA. In this second and final round of comments, NASFAA thanked ED for changes made as a result of the 60-day comment period, including better help text for several questions, revising the timeframe specified in the student homelessness question, and rewording the question about high school completion status. NASFAA also reiterated remaining areas of concern not taken into consideration from the first commenting round as well as other suggestions for further improvements. NASFAA hopes our members will use these comments to inform their own comments, which are due to ED on June 25, 2026.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA Office Closed Friday in Observance of Juneteenth Federal Holiday

NASFAA offices will be closed on Friday, June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday. NASFAA's Today's News will not be sent and AskRegs and technical and membership support will not be available until the office reopens on Monday, June 22.

At this year's NASFAA Virtual Summit, attendees have the opportunity to learn about Schedule of Reductions (SOR) by identifying when SOR is required under federal regulations, understanding how enrollment status governs SOR outcomes, and examining the relationship between SOR, NSLDS reporting, and disbursement eligibility. Through extensive examples, participants will apply SOR across both common and complex scenarios, with particular attention to how changes in enrollment status at different points in the academic year can alter outcomes. Review the full NASFAA 2026 Virtual Summit schedule and register your institution today!
