NEWS FROM NASFAA

With the start of the New Year, the higher education community hit the ground running as the Department of Education initiated its soft launch of the 2024-25 FAFSA over the weekend. Since the launch, applicants have been reporting glitches and complaints due to the intermittent availability of the form. NASFAA is continuing to work to keep the financial aid community and the public updated on how the soft launch, limited availability, and overall timeline will impact the college enrollment process.

NASFAA is pleased to announce a new resource for financial aid administrators to share with students and families on how to obtain an FSA ID for individuals without a Social Security Number. Please note, the explainer is based on the most recent information we have from the Department of Education.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Register now for NASFAA U’s Fundamentals of Student Financial Aid online course! Starting on Monday, January 8, this four-week interactive online course is the perfect learning tool for new financial aid professionals, and individuals who assist students through the financial aid cycle such as admissions or enrollment representatives, and high school counselors.

Register now for NASFAA’s Certification Exam Preparation Workshop in January while seats are still available! This will be the last opportunity to certify as an FAAC based on your current regulatory knowledge before the rules change for 2024-25. Once certified, you never have to take the exam again as long as you recertify based on earning points for continuing to learn! NASFAA’s online workshops offer significant cost savings, as the fee of $199 includes access to the exam preparation guide, knowledge exam, and an exclusive practice test – a value of $525. Participants must have an actively approved application on file. Register today

NASFAA is looking for a student to fill a 12-week paid internship with its Policy and Federal Relations staff. The intern will help develop advocacy materials; attend and report on hearings, events, and meetings; analyze and summarize legislation and regulations; and much more. If you know graduate or undergraduate students who may be interested, please encourage them to apply. This internship is supported by the Dallas Martin Endowment for Public Policy and Student Aid. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, for priority consideration.
