NEWS FROM NASFAA

Your partners at the U.S. Department of Education want to hear from you. In cooperation with the Department of Education, NASFAA is polling members regularly on when your institution plans to send financial aid offers to students and what your disbursement timing may be. Take this short survey by tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30, at midnight PT, to help inform plans for continued improvement with the Better FAFSA rollout. Please note: these questions are the same questions from the survey NASFAA facilitated last week. We ask that you still consider participating in this survey in full, so we can establish trends among member institutions.

Federal Student Aid (FSA) Chief Operating Officer Richard Cordray will formally step down from his role at the end of June, the Department of Education announced on Friday. The announcement came shortly before the expiration of Cordray’s three-year contract, and follows significant criticism of the department’s handling of the 2024-25 FAFSA rollout.

Issue: The following was posted to the FSA Tech listserv on April 18, 2024: "NSLDS identified an error with the calculation of Aggregate Loan Totals due to duplicate Capitalized Interest amounts. NSLDS deducts Capitalized Interest from an Aid Recipient’s Outstanding Balance when determining if a student is close-to or exceeding their Aggregate Limits."
