NEWS FROM NASFAA

On Monday NASFAA submitted comments to the Department of Education (ED) in response to its proposed regulations for the student loan changes in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). NASFAA’s comments point out several areas where ED should make the regulations more student- and borrower-friendly, ask for clarification in areas that remain ambiguous in the proposal, and highlight the need for prompt, clear guidance and systems updates so financial aid administrators can ensure that students receive accurate financial aid packages and on-time student aid disbursements.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Fuel Your Start to the FSA Training Conference

NASFAA will be at the FSA training conference this Wednesday, March 4 from 8–10 a.m., sharing a little appreciation with attendees by offering gift cards to Timgad Café while supplies last. If you’re attending the conference and have some time before the sessions begin, please stop by the café on the lower concourse level of the Ronald Reagan Building and enjoy a treat on us — we’d love to see you.

Attending the NASFAA National Conference for the first time can be an overwhelming experience, even more so if you are attending alone. We want attendees to have a great time and come back year after year. While NASFAA has always hosted a welcome reception for first-time attendees, we continue to look for creative ways to help first-time attendees connect with colleagues. All members of this task force will be required to attend the NASFAA 2026 National Conference in National Harbor and participate in task force activities prior to the conference and on site. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, please review the task force charter and complete the volunteer form by 5 p.m. ET March 3, 2026.

Blue Icon Advisors' upcoming Let's Talk session, on March 19, will talk about staff retention and succession planning. To participate, you will need a webcam and either a phone or a computer microphone and speakers. Check the schedule for additional upcoming topics and be sure to register for this upcoming session.
