NEWS FROM NASFAA

With over a dozen states creating universal FAFSA completion policies, requiring or strongly encouraging high school seniors to complete the FAFSA as a condition of graduation, a new report from EdTrust is examining what support schools need for successful implementation to help students access financial aid.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) made sweeping changes to federal student aid programs that will widen unmet need gaps and increase the demand for supplemental private education loans. Financial aid offices will play a critical role in helping students navigate these changes, but must do so while remaining fully compliant with federal Preferred Lender List (PLL) rules and regulations. Please join Education Finance Council and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators on April 14 at 2 p.m. ET, for a timely discussion on PLL regulations and institutional best practices. Reserve your seat today!

The 2026-27 Certification Exam Preparation Guide is now available for candidates preparing to take the certification exam, which will transition to reflect 2026-27 rules and regulations as of May 1, 2026. Based on recommendations from experienced workshop facilitators and subject matter expert volunteers, the guide includes updated information and new resources. Financial aid competencies are identified and changes related to the January 5, 2025 Final Rule and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 are highlighted. The Guide is included with workshop registration or can be purchased separately for independent study.

Reminder: Participate in NASFAA’s Staffing Model Survey

If you are your institution’s primary contact, NASFAA sent you an email on Monday March 30, to participate in a very short survey about your office’s staffing and structure. Your feedback will directly contribute to updating NASFAA’s Staffing Predictor Model, which gauges how your financial aid office’s staffing compares to others nationwide. The survey should only take 5-8 minutes of your time. Responses are due by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, April 10, 2026. Your participation will provide us with a fuller dataset, strengthening everyone’s results when using the Predictor Model. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact NASFAA’s Research Department.
