NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA has joined over 500 stakeholders – a coalition of advocacy organizations focused on the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), and Education and Related Agencies appropriations bill – calling for the Appropriations Committees to provide a robust fiscal year (FY) 2027 allocation during the annual appropriations process that ensures these programs can meet vital needs.

The high school class of 2026 set an all-time high FAFSA completion rate, with 54.7% of seniors completing the FAFSA form as of May 1, according to recent data from the National College Attainment Network (NCAN).

After nearly a year of status reports, the Department of Education’s (ED) latest filing, detailing its backlog of Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) buyback applications and income-driven repayment (IDR) applications, indicates that the department still has a significant number of forms to process, but has ramped up its rate of processing.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA Website Maintenance Scheduled for Today May 28

The NASFAA website will be unavailable starting at 3:00 p.m. ET today, May 28, for scheduled maintenance. The outage is expected to last a few hours, and the site will be fully restored when complete. This maintenance window will also impact other NASFAA entities, including AskRegs, the Compliance Engine, and Testing Center. Thank you for your patience while NASFAA works to maintain our online resources.

This AskRegs Knowledgebase Q&A was updated on May 21, 2026, based on guidance provided in the U.S. Department of Education's (ED's) Frequently Asked Questions – Loan Limits related to part-time programs. It doesn't. The expected time to credential under 34 CFR 685.102(b), is based on the published length of the program. It will not change or increase even if the student is enrolled part-time (less-than-full-time) at any point during that program. View the full answer to this question to learn more.

At this year's NASFAA Virtual Summit, attendees can prepare for NASFAA's Cash Management Professional Credential through training with NASFAA U instructors, who will strengthen their understanding of cash management requirements within Title IV programs.
