NEWS FROM NASFAA

College families reported spending an average of $34,019 on college during the 2025-26 academic year, a 10% increase from last year, according to a recent survey from Sallie Mae. However, despite this increase, over half of family respondents said they paid less than the full advertised sticker price for school.

Federal Student Aid (FSA) announced on Wednesday that it released an online course focused on Workforce Pell, the first in a series of online courses related to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). FSA did not give a date when future courses would become available, but wrote in a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) that more courses will be added to the FSA Training Center soon. Those interested in the course must log in to the FSA Training Center with their username and password, select the “Statutory & Regulatory Updates” tile, then choose the link to the Workforce Pell learning track.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA's award-winning Developing Leaders Pipeline (DLP) program established in 2018 is designed to provide professional development opportunities to NASFAA's next generation of leaders across all six regions. The program provides participants with a robust portfolio of benefits, mentorship, and guidance on how to develop as a financial aid association leader at the state, regional, and national level. Applications are peer-reviewed, and six financial aid professionals, one from each region, are selected by a group of their colleagues. Applications are due September 30, 2026.
