NEWS FROM NASFAA

 Off the Cuff

This week on "Off The Cuff," Justin, Megan, Stephen, and Allie report back with the latest developments on the federal budget—which may come in on time for the first time in more than two decades. Justin explains how a policy change taking effect at the Department of Education might be forcing out some longer-serving staff, while Allie details the newest three-year cohort default rates released this week. The team also discusses NASFAA's recent strategy retreat, and which staff members are now experts at improv.

When you visit Colorado Mountain College’s (CMC) website, you are greeted with photos from different school events, information about tuition and fees, and links to various programs and campus locations—not unlike many other college homepages. Where CMC differs, however, is that it also advertises on its front page its support for students in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and a new initiative to help them earn degrees.

New Form to Request Tax Transcript Available Online

Last month, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced an upcoming change to federal tax return transcripts, to become effective on Sept. 23, 2018. NASFAA reported this week that the transcripts will now contain partially redacted personally identifiable information (PII) such as name, Social Security number, and addresses. The format change will impact all transcripts, whether retrieved online or by mail, and will be effective for all tax years. The new form to request a transcript of a tax return, the Form 4506-T, is available online through the IRS.
