NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Department of Education’s (ED) Institutional and Programmatic Eligibility Committee convened Tuesday for the first of four days, as the negotiated rulemaking group aims to reach consensus on regulatory language for seven different topics, with gainful employment, the 90/10 rule, and administrative capability headlining the slate.

The Department of Education (ED) has notified higher education institutions that drew funds from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) under any of the three federal coronavirus relief packages that they are required to submit their annual report describing how the institution used the awarded funds between April 11 and May 6, 2022. The annual performance report institutions must submit covers activities funded between January 1 through Dec. 31, 2021 and are in addition to requirements to publish quarterly reports. Additionally, ED noted that during that time period the portal will be open for corrections to CARES Act reports that institutions have already submitted. ED has yet to post this notice publicly, but NASFAA will continue to monitor and update members as needed.

In a new white paper, a number of consumer protection groups outline the importance of the Department of Education (ED) using the current federal student loan moratorium to make improvements to income-driven repayment before the benefit expires.
