NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Department of Education on Friday sent a letter to Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, outlining the potential impact that funding cuts would have on higher education and financial aid.

On Thursday, NASFAA sent a letter to Department of Education (ED) officials expressing concern that financial aid administrators will be unable to construct accurate living expense allowances in students’ cost of attendance without the benefit of the student’s housing choice information on the FAFSA. In the letter, NASFAA cautions ED that removing the housing question is at odds with congressional intent and urges ED to work with Congress to ensure FAFSA simplification efforts do not force institutions to require students to provide information beyond what is asked on the FAFSA.
