NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA today released the results of its 2025 Administrative Burden Survey, which found that a strong majority of respondents, 91%, reported feeling that the time and resources their office devotes to processing each aid application has “greatly increased” or “somewhat increased” in the past five years. Nearly half of all respondents, 49%, believed their financial aid office faced moderate (38%) or severe (14%) resource shortages over the past five years that affected their level of service during peak processing periods. Of those who felt they faced a shortage, 68% felt it was permanent. The report calls on Congress and the Department of Education (ED) to consider several options and reasonable steps to address the ongoing resource constraints financial aid offices face, such as focusing on regulations that reduce administrative burden, thoroughly testing the FAFSA, considering the creation of a federal emergency aid program and doubling the maximum Pell Grant. These recommendations would give financial aid administrators more time to work directly with students and to be in compliance with their administrative capability mandate. Read the full report and review the results of studies conducted in 2010, 2015, and 2020.

Amid a flurry of news to come out of Washington, D.C., in the past few months, NASFAA kicked off its virtual conference on Monday by debriefing attendees on the news they need to know, including the recently passed reconciliation bill, last week’s negotiated rulemaking (Neg Reg) session, and more.

The Department of Education (ED) released an electronic announcement last week announcing that the new Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) enrollment functionality would be available on FSA Partner Connect as of July 14, 2025. As announced in May, the previous SAIG enrollment website was retired on June 12, meaning any new or updated enrollments are not currently being processed while the functionality transitions to FSA Partner Connect. ED’s announcement of the July 14 live date also detailed key points about accessing FSA Partner Connect, the new electronic signature process for SAIG enrollments, and listed additional training and resources available.
