The Department of Education (ED) has appealed a federal court’s decision to vacate, or strike down, the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Final Rule, notifying the court on Thursday of its intent to take the case to the First Circuit Court of Appeals.

NASFAA reported last week on an issue with how StudentAid.gov displayed the Graduated and Extended Graduated repayment plans. The Department of Education (ED) has since updated the site's display: it no longer shows a range of payments, instead displaying a single payment figure, and has corrected the accompanying explanatory text to reflect that payments start low and increase over time, consistent with how these plans actually function.

NASFAA recently updated its 2026-27 & Beyond Graduate/Professional Student Loan Limit Exception (LLE) Flag COD Process Flow to update the decision point, “Does student have an active loan with Earliest Disbursement Date <=06/30/2026 for the same 4-digit 'CIP 1' Code and credential level at the same school, OR at a closed school, in any of award years 2017-18 through 2025-26” to reflect that the prior year active loan must be at the graduate or professional level, per documentation of the LLE process flow in the COD Technical Reference.
