The Department of Education (ED) on Monday announced a December 31, 2026 deadline for institutions participating in Prison Education Programs (PEPs) to submit their annual report of transfer and release dates of confined or incarcerated individuals who participated in the institution’s PEP, which is required in accordance with the regulations at 34 CFR 668.239. Reports will be submitted through the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system, and ED recommends institutions submit reports at least 10 days prior to the deadline to ensure adequate time to reprocess rejected submissions.

NASFAA is pleased to share its comments on the Department of Education's (ED) Accreditation, Innovation, and Modernization (AIM) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), which proposes changes to the regulations governing accrediting agencies. NASFAA's comments focus on proposed §602.17(a)(3)(ii), which would require accrediting agencies to review an institution's practices and capabilities regarding the administration of student aid programs.

NASFAA's Financial Aid Night Toolkit has recently been updated with information for 2027-28 and is now available to assist NASFAA members in conducting or providing support for financial aid night presentations. In the toolkit you'll find a slideshow designed to give students and families a basic understanding of financial aid concepts, sources of financial aid, and the application process for federal student aid. The toolkit also contains a guide to planning and conducting a financial aid night, as well as updated versions of supplemental student and parent handouts to help you give a compelling and informative presentation. The content may be presented in person or virtually.

This online training series is designed to introduce new aid officers with less than two years of professional financial aid experience to the basic aspects of Title IV administration.
