Senate Clears FAFSA Deadline Act

The Senate unanimously passed the FAFSA Deadline Act on Wednesday evening, which would require the Department of Education (ED) to certify and make October 1 the official launch date for the FAFSA each year.
“This commonsense bill holds the Department of Education accountable and ensures students have the financial information to choose the best, affordable college option for them,” Senator Cassidy (R-La.), an author of the bill, said in a statement. “It should be signed into law without delay.”
The bipartisan bill, endorsed by NASFAA, now heads to President Joe Biden to be signed into law.
“One of NASFAA’s long-standing recommendations has been codifying into statute the October 1 release date of the FAFSA. We would encourage President Biden to sign the FAFSA Deadline Act soon, an important piece of legislation that would ensure students and families have earlier, consistent access to critical financial aid information."
