NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA President and CEO Justin Draeger is set to testify before the House Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development today on the 2024-25 FAFSA rollout. A full list of all the hearing’s witnesses, which also includes NASFAA member Rachelle Feldman, is available online. The hearing will be livestreamed today at 10:15 a.m. ET.

The Department of Education (ED) on Tuesday evening, provided more details on when institutions can expect to receive reprocessed FAFSA applicant records and when students will be able to make corrections to their FAFSAs. The EA did not address when the school correction process will be available.

On Monday, NASFAA posted a Poll the Pros asking members about which first-year undergraduate student populations, if any, they plan to send aid offers by May 1. And out of the 474 members that responded, 14% — or roughly 1 in 7 institutions — said they are waiting for reprocessed Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) and don’t expect to send any offers by May 1. Additionally, 21% of members said they’ll send aid offers by May 1 to only students with valid ISIRs and official SAIs that are unaffected by known data issues. Read the full poll results, broken out by institutional sector, for additional insights.

While the rollout of the 2024-25 FAFSA has been littered with errors, troubleshooting, and amended timelines, the Department of Education (ED) is also targeting resources to increase FAFSA completion rates and enrollment in means-tested benefit programs by allowing state grant agencies to use application data to connect with college access groups, as well as students.
