Congress Unveils Short-Term Spending Deal to Fund Government Through March 14

By Maria Carrasco, NASFAA Staff Reporter

Congressional leaders have unveiled a short-term spending deal that would fund the federal government until March 14, 2025.

The bill is currently making its way through both chambers and will need to be signed into law to prevent a government shutdown set to take effect after December 20. However, obstacles to enactment remain, with President-elect Donald Trump opposing the bill, leaving House Republicans to reconsider the stop-gap bill.

The initial continuing resolution, introduced on December 17, would fund the government at the fiscal year 2024 levels through March 14 and includes the Department of Education (ED). However, the spending bill does contain additional spending provisions like disaster relief, but it does not have any added funding impacting ED.
