House Poised to Advance Reconciliation as Final Vote Nears

UPDATE: The House passed the reconciliation package by a vote of 218-214 on Thursday afternoon — the bill now heads to the White House for President Donald Trump’s expected signature.
After clearing a number of procedural hurdles overnight, the House, early Thursday morning, began wrapping up debate on the sweeping reconciliation package and appears to have the votes to send the bill to the White House for enactment. However, a final vote is still needed and is expected to occur within the next few hours. As a reminder, the bill, which also passed the Senate, contains tax changes and higher education-related provisions directly impacting several higher education programs, including Pell Grants, income-driven repayments, closed school discharge, the student aid index formula, borrower defense rules, and more.
