NEWS FROM NASFAA

 Off the Cuff

This week on "Off The Cuff," Megan rejoins the team as they discuss the latest news on the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program as the Supreme Court heard oral arguments this week. First, at 2:25, Allie, Rachel, and Megan discuss member feedback from the previous episode. At 6:37, Megan dives into the details of the DACA case and three possible outcomes for the program's future. Rachel brings everyone up to speed on the federal budget process at 15:20, as lawmakers approach another deadline on November 20. And at 19:27, Allie explains news out of the Department of Education, as the agency announced Friday it would forgive the student loan debt and restore Pell Grant eligibility for more than 1,500 former students who attended certain Dream Center institutions. Plus, the team poses a new question to listeners: What strange superstitions or rituals do you perform on a regular basis?

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA Websites Unavailable Briefly Today

The NASFAA website, www.nasfaa.org, will be unavailable this afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. ET for scheduled maintenance. The outage is expected to last approximately two hours; the site will be fully restored when complete. This maintenance window will also impact the NASFAA Compliance Engine, and hosted sites including the Higher Education Committee of 50 and NextStepsEd. However, AskRegs will be available during this time. Thank you for your patience while NASFAA works to maintain our online resources.

Leadership Conference

We're less than three months away from NASFAA's 2020 Leadership & Legislative Conference & Expo. Kristie Hughes of Western Kentucky University said she loved "every part" of the conference. "This is all new to me, and I was a little nervous," she said. "Now, I'm ready to step into that [leadership] role, and I'm psyched!" Others have called the panels "insightful" and said the conference helped them translate federal policy into the day-to-day duties of financial aid professionals. If you've already registered, be sure to check out opportunities to tour the nation's capital. It's not too late to snag a spot — register by December 6 to save $100.

NASFAA members are always moving ahead, whether enhancing their skills in their current roles, accepting promotions or job changes, or discovering new pathways as retirees. Have you changed jobs recently? Are you newly retired? Have you won an award, or started a new initiative on campus? Let NASFAA and your colleagues know about your career developments in 2019-20 by completing the "Movers and Shakers" form. We'll review your submission and then post your update to our Movers and Shakers page for all to see.
